Barcelona, 1945: A city slowly heals from its war wounds, and Daniel, an antiquarian book dealer’s son who mourns the loss of his mother, finds solace in a mysterious book entitled The Shadow of the Wind, by one Julian Carax. But when he sets out to find the author’s other works, he makes a shocking discovery: someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book Carax has written. In fact, Daniel may have the last of Carax’s books in existence. Soon Daniel’s seemingly innocent quest opens a door into one of Barcelona’s darkest secrets—an epic story of murder, madness, and doomed love. This book was awesome! I had been wanting to read it for awhile now, and finally got around to it. It was worth the wait. Not only is it well written, but the story is engrossing. I stayed up until four one morning to finish it. I got hooked and couldn't bear to not know what happened. The main character Daniel is lovable, though he does has his faults and he is surrounded by many people all with very different personalities. They mesh together wonderfully. The action starts immediately and keeps moving until the very last page.

Glad you enjoyed it!
PS--I heard through the grapevine (I work in publishing) that Zafon is working on a follow-up novel to Shadow of the Wind. Scheduled for release next year, so we'll have to wait just that much longer!
I'm glad you enjoyed this one so much! I am looking forward to reading it as I have heard so many great things about it.
I loved this book when I read it in my pre-blogging days! In terms of the follow up, it was released in Spanish a few weeks ago and is due to be released in English in about May next year I believe. I can't wait to read it!
I really do need to read this!
I loved Shadow of the Wind, and have also heard that the next Zafon book is on its way. It is tentatively titled The Angel's Game and is actually a prequel to Shadow.
